QualificationNigeria’s Nigeria women’s national football team will face either Sudan women’s national football team or Comoros women’s national football team in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.
The draw was conducted on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football in Cairo, setting the stage for a highly competitive qualification series across the continent.
The qualifying campaign will be played over five knockout rounds, with each tie decided on a home-and-away basis.
Sudan and Comoros are scheduled to meet in the first round between June 1 and 9, with the winner advancing to face the Super Falcons in the next phase.
Nigeria, one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams, will enter the competition at the second round, with fixtures slated for October 5 to 13.
The Super Falcons will be aiming to secure one of the continent’s two available slots at the women’s football tournament of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The stakes are high, as only two African nations will qualify for the global event.
Nigeria will be looking to build on its strong pedigree and return to the Olympic stage after previously representing the continent at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games alongside the Zambia women’s national football team.
With the road to Los Angeles now underway, attention will turn to the outcome of the Sudan versus Comoros tie, which will determine Nigeria’s next opponent in the quest for Olympic qualification.
