Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been called to the rescue after earning a late invitation to Ghana’s squad for the international friendly against Mexico.
The Black Stars’ current first-choice goalkeeper has been drafted in to replace Gidios Aseako ahead of the clash scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026.
Asare, who has established himself as Ghana’s number one with a string of assured performances for both club and country, is expected to bring leadership, calmness and experience to the squad despite the late call-up. The 11-capped goalkeeper has become a dependable figure for the national team and his inclusion underlines the trust the technical team continues to place in him.
His late call up to the squad also highlights his growing importance within the Black Stars setup as Ghana prepares for another major international test against the North American giants.
The friendly against Mexico is expected to serve as an important assessment exercise for the technical handlers as preparations continue for the FIFA world cup in USA, Canada and Mexico
