Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has called on the Black Stars technical team to adopt a compact and pragmatic style of play as Ghana prepares for the upcoming FIFA World Cup campaign.
Speaking on the current state of the national team, Baffoe stressed the importance of building a system around the strengths of the players available rather than relying on Ghana’s past reputation as a dominant football nation.
“We all wish the players good luck and for me the coach should have the adequate formation in regards to the players he has,” Baffoe said. “I don’t think we are the Ghana like some years back that we play dominant football. I believe that we have to be compact and use the players accordingly.”
The former defender pointed to the need for proper utilization of key attacking talents such as Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew, insisting that the tactical setup must suit the qualities of the players.
“How do we put, for instance, Antoine Semenyo who had a fantastic season in the Premier League appropriately? How do we use Jordan? I’m just mentioning names appropriately,” he added.
Baffoe also highlighted the physical demands and intensity expected at the World Cup, urging the Black Stars to remain disciplined and organized on the pitch.
“So for me, I think we should play very, very compact because the intensity is going to be very, very high,” he stated.
Despite recent criticism and mixed feelings surrounding the national team, Baffoe reaffirmed his support for the players and technical handlers, emphasizing national unity behind the Black Stars once the tournament begins.
“But once again, fully behind the coach, the technical team and the players. We are Ghanaians, we always remain Ghanaians. Sometimes we are not happy but as soon as the World Cup starts kicking off, we are 100% behind the team.”
