Yaw Prince Owusu Relieved After First Win as Kotoko Interim Coach

Interim head coach Yaw Prince Owusu has described Asante Kotoko’s victory over Young Apostles FC as a deeply significant personal milestone, admitting the pressure surrounding the team was impossible to ignore.

Kotoko secured a composed 2-0 win, a result that not only strengthened their position in the league but also handed Owusu his first triumph since taking temporary charge. Speaking after the match, the coach acknowledged the weight of expectation that had hung over the squad in recent weeks.

“It means a lot to me,” Owusu said. “This is my first win, and it makes people recognise what I can do. Yes, there was pressure. The players felt it themselves.”

According to the interim boss, the turning point came before kickoff. The technical team made a conscious effort to address the mental burden the players were carrying, urging them to release the tension and commit fully to the tactical plan. “We spoke to them and asked them to put the pressure behind them and focus on how we wanted to play. They listened, and it worked perfectly for us today,” he explained.

Once Kotoko found the breakthrough and added a second, Owusu felt the performance take shape with greater clarity. “Once we scored the two goals, everything became clear in our performance. So we are okay with it,” he added.

For a club of Kotoko’s stature, expectations never dip. But for Owusu, this victory was more than three points. It was validation, relief and perhaps the beginning of a new chapter on the touchline.
