Former Ghana national football team midfielder Hamza Mohammed has singled out Fatawu Issahaku as a key figure for Ghana’s future, expressing confidence that the young winger could play a decisive role at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Hamza described Issahaku as a rare talent, one the country is fortunate to have at this stage of his development. “He is a great talent. We are just privileged to have such a talent on our team,” he said. “A young guy who is doing very well for himself and the country.”

The former midfielder emphasized the importance of keeping the youngster fit, insisting that Ghana’s World Cup ambitions could depend heavily on players of Issahaku’s profile. “We just pray for injury free for him. I believe he should be the one that we should look for in the World Cup that we are going to,” he added.

Hamza went further, placing Issahaku among the next generation expected to carry the Black Stars forward. “Fatawu and the likes are the future of the Black Stars. So just hope and pray for injury free for him. And who knows? Maybe he will be one of the Abedi Pelés that we’ve never seen since the legend left the game.”

The comparison to Abedi Pelé is significant. The former African Footballer of the Year remains one of Ghana’s most revered figures, and invoking his name underscores the level of belief Hamza has in Issahaku’s potential.
