Aguerd Opens Up on Surgery After Months of Persistent Pain

Nayef Aguerd has revealed he underwent surgery after enduring persistent pain for several months, explaining that the procedure had become unavoidable despite numerous medical efforts to manage the issue.

In a message shared on his X account, the Moroccan defender detailed the physical struggles he has faced since October. Aguerd said the discomfort gradually became part of his daily life, affecting him from morning until night and sometimes even during his sleep.

“Since October, I had been suffering from pain that had become part of my daily life,” he wrote. “From the moment I woke up until I went to bed — and sometimes even during the night — it had become constant. Despite all the medical protocols put in place in recent months, it was unfortunately no longer enough, and surgery became inevitable.”

Aguerd expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who oversaw the procedure and supported him throughout the process, particularly surgeon Dr. Gilles Reboul and national team doctor Christophe Baudot for their careful monitoring. He also thanked the medical staff of Olympique de Marseille for their assistance from the beginning of his treatment to the final stages.

The 28-year-old explained that the decision to undergo surgery had been under consideration for some time, but he initially chose to continue playing while exploring other possible solutions.

“That decision should probably have been taken earlier,” he admitted, “but I wanted to keep going and look for the best possible solutions before reaching that point.”

Aguerd will now focus on rest and rehabilitation, with a clear objective of returning in time to help Marseille during the decisive final stretch of the season.

“Now it’s time for rest and recovery,” he added. “My only goal is to be ready in time to help Marseille during the final sprint of the season — this time at 100 percent and without pain.”

He also thanked his teammates with both the Moroccan national team and Marseille for their support during the difficult period, saying they witnessed his struggles over the past months and stood by him throughout.

Aguerd concluded his message with optimism, expressing hope of returning to action soon as he begins his recovery process.
