World Cup 2026: Trump's warning to Egypt challenger

Donald Trump has once again spoken out about Iran’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Trump had previously confirmed that Iran was simply welcome in the United States for the tournament’s final stage.

Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Donjamali then took a hard line, announcing that Iran would under no circumstances participate due to the war.

On Thursday, on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump indicated that Iran was still welcome.

He clarified, however, that participation would be inappropriate for security reasons.

“The Iranian national soccer team is welcome at the World Cup, but I don’t think its presence is appropriate, for its own safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

FIFA has already stated that the war does not justify postponing the World Cup.

Iran is in Group G of the tournament, alongside Egypt, as well as Belgium and New Zealand.
