FIFA has officially sanctioned the Israeli Football Association following an investigation into discriminatory incidents raised by the Palestinian Football Association. While some expected a stronger decision, no suspension has been imposed, unlike the measures taken against Russia in recent years.
In its statement, FIFA explained: “The Disciplinary Committee has determined that the Israeli Football Association has committed several breaches of its obligations as a FIFA member association.”
As a result, the IFA has been fined CHF 150,000 and issued a formal warning. The sanctions relate to violations of fair play and anti-discrimination rules under the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
FIFA also imposed concrete corrective measures. The IFA must display anti-discrimination banners during its next international matches and implement a prevention plan. The governing body insisted on its broader responsibility, stating: “Sport must remain a platform for peace, dialogue, and mutual respect… with a responsibility to defend the values of dignity, equality, and humanity, particularly in times of conflict.”
