Anass Salah-Eddine was forced off early in PSV’s match against Telstar after elbowing Gerald Alders.
Just before halftime, Salah-Eddine fouled Alders. The two players were standing side by side, with no ball nearby, and Salah-Eddine, exasperated, lashed out with a sudden swing of his arm.
Referee Marc Nagtegaal, with his back to the incident, brandished a red card after being alerted by one of his assistants.
To make the final minutes of the first half even more nightmarish for PSV, Telstar also took the lead.
Following a free kick, Sem van Duijn headed the ball to Patrick Brouwer, who scored the opening goal with a volley: 1-0.
