Mauritania will take on Argentina in Buenos Aires on March 27 as the Mourabitounes prepare for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, with head coach Aritz Lopez Garai focused on a single goal.

Mauritania missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Finishing third in their qualifying group behind Egypt and Botswana, the Mourabitounes still feel the sting of that disappointment.

With just a few weeks to go before the start of the qualifiers for the next edition, they are already laying the groundwork for qualification. At the start of this March training camp, Aritz Lopez Garai laid out his team’s ambitions.

“This camp marks the beginning of a new cycle with a clear objective: to qualify Mauritania for the next Africa Cup of Nations. We must build a strong team with a clear identity and an impeccable mentality,” the head coach stated.

Facing Argentina, Mauritania isn’t just playing a friendly, they aim to send a message. “It’s a huge challenge, but also a chance to show our progress,” say the Mourabitounes.
