Super Eagles Set for High-Profile Friendlies Against Poland, Portugal Ahead of Unity Cup

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, will face tough European opposition in June as part of preparations for upcoming international competitions, with fixtures lined up against Poland and Portugal.

Head coach Éric Chelle will lead his squad into the first encounter against Poland on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The clash offers Nigeria a chance to revisit a familiar opponent they last defeated 1-0 in an international friendly in Wrocław on March 23, 2018.

On that occasion, former winger Victor Moses converted a penalty to hand the Super Eagles a narrow victory.

A week later, on Wednesday, June 10, Nigeria will take on Portugal in what promises to be another stern test.

The last meeting between both sides ended in a heavy 4-0 defeat for the Super Eagles on November 17, 2022.

Portugal’s attacking quality was on full display in that game, with Bruno Fernandes netting twice, while Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário also got on the scoresheet.

The June friendlies are part of a broader build-up schedule that also includes participation in the Unity Cup tournament in May.

The competition will feature a diverse lineup of nations, including India and Jamaica, offering the Super Eagles additional opportunities to test their depth and tactical cohesion.

With a mix of competitive friendlies and tournament action, Chelle’s side will be aiming to fine-tune their squad, improve consistency, and build momentum as they prepare for future international challenges.
