New Morocco national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi addressed the controversy surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title during his first press conference.
Calm but firm, he began by celebrating the decision: “Before I begin, I would like to congratulate all Moroccans—the staff, the players, and the Federation—for the good news we received two days ago, which is well-deserved.” A clear stance following the ruling of the Confederation of African Football.
The coach, however, quickly shifted the focus toward the future. “When things are positive, it’s easier. This decision pleased me and will please everyone. But it’s important to focus on the present and the future. My goal is to make the team perform well at the next World Cup.” He insisted on not fueling the controversy: “CAF, the governing bodies, and our federation have done what needed to be done… The most important thing is to look ahead.”
Beyond the AFCON debate, Ouahbi also discussed squad decisions and the integration of new profiles like Issa Diop. “What’s important when you’re a new coach is to start with a clean slate… Issa Diop’s profile is interesting,” he explained, while emphasizing commitment and sincerity. Determined to build a competitive group, he concluded with a clear vision: “We’re not here to start a revolution… We want continuity and performance.”
