Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has called for patience with striker Antoine Semenyo, attributing his recent struggles with the Black Stars to a lack of cohesion and key absences within the squad.
Baffoe, speaking on the team’s recent performances, suggested that Semenyo’s club form has not fully translated to the national team due to structural and personnel differences.
“Semenyo is a top-class player, but at the moment, Black Stars are not Man City. So everything around him is totally different,” he explained, pointing to the contrast in playing style and support systems between club and country.
He further highlighted the absence and fitness concerns of influential players, including Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana, both of whom have either been unavailable or recently returned from injury.
“Don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Kudus, Kamaldeen just came back from injury,” Baffoe noted, adding that midfield anchor Thomas Partey is also yet to reach peak condition.
“Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Baffoe singled out captain Jordan Ayew for praise following a strong individual display.
“I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch,” he said.
Baffoe concluded by stressing that Semenyo’s effectiveness will improve once the team regains full strength and rhythm, particularly with key players returning to optimal fitness.
“If those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,” he stated.
His remarks reflect a broader sentiment that Ghana’s current struggles are less about individual quality and more about collective balance, as the Black Stars continue to search for consistency and fluidity.
