UEFA has rejected the appeal lodged by Benfica concerning the provisional one-match suspension handed to Gianluca Prestianni. The sanction followed the racism incident involving Vinicius Jr. during the first leg of the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
The Portuguese club had immediately challenged the decision, hoping to have the winger available for the return leg.
According to several outlets, including Cadena SER, UEFA’s ruling means Benfica must proceed without Prestianni for this decisive match. Head coach José Mourinho, himself suspended after receiving a red card in the first leg, will therefore see his options further reduced as Benfica attempt to overturn a 1–0 deficit and keep their European hopes alive.
