Nigeria’s senior national team head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed strong confidence in newly invited winger, Yira Sor, predicting that the youngster will quickly become a fan favourite among supporters of the Super Eagles.
The 25-year-old wide player, who features for Belgian side KRC Genk, has received his maiden invitation to the national team ahead of the ongoing four-nation tournament in Turkey.
He has already linked up with the squad in camp and is in line to make his debut in Friday’s opening fixture against Iran national football team.
Despite modest statistics this season—four goals and one assist in 24 appearances—Chelle insists the winger brings far more to the team than numbers suggest.
The coach highlighted Collins’ pace, flair, and attacking energy as qualities that will endear him to Nigerian fans once he takes to the pitch.
Speaking about the new addition, Chelle emphasized that players operating outside Europe’s top leagues can still possess exceptional quality, noting that Collins fits that profile perfectly.
He added that the winger’s exciting style of play makes him one to watch, expressing belief that supporters will naturally warm to him after seeing his impact.
The Super Eagles will face Iran on Friday before taking on Jordan national football team next Tuesday as part of the international break fixtures.
Both Iran and Jordan are using the matches to fine-tune preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament Nigeria will not be part of after missing out on qualification.
For Collins, however, the upcoming games present a valuable opportunity to make a strong first impression and stake his claim for a regular place in Chelle’s squad moving forward.
