Head coach Sébastien Desabre has expressed strong desire in his DR Congo national football team side ahead of their decisive FIFA 2026 Intercontinental Playoff encounter against Jamaica national football team, declaring that his team remains firmly on track to achieve their long-term objective of World Cup qualification.

“We’re really fired up. We’re still on course to meet our main objective.
“That’s the goal we set ourselves when I took this job three and a half years ago.
“This final will be our 13th match since our qualifying campaign began,” Desabre said.
The French tactician highlighted the quality within his squad, noting that many of his players are competing at top clubs across Europe and beyond.
However, he stressed that beyond individual talent, it is the collective spirit and belief in the team’s project that have been key to their progress.
“We’re lucky enough to have talented players who ply their trade at top clubs. Above all, everyone has really bought into the project we’ve been building together. Everyone is pulling in the same direction to achieve a common goal,” he added.
Desabre also underlined the tactical discipline of his side, pointing to their ability to function as a cohesive unit both in attack and defense. According to him, this team-first mentality could prove decisive against a physically strong and technically capable Jamaican side.
“We can make it tough for our opponents because we play as a unit: our forwards track back, our defenders push forward, and everyone pulls together, as if they were soldiers going into battle for their country.”
The high-stakes playoff will determine which side keeps their dream of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive, adding extra intensity to what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
