FAZ President Keith Mweemba this morning inspected Mansa’s Kaole Stadium to assess the progress of rehabilitation works.
Mweemba who was accompanied by FAZ Luapula Chairperson Mweemba Mujala, Acting FAZ General Secretary Iva Lengwe and Luapula Region FAZ General Secretary Mukenge Kaunda, said a lot of work still needs to be done to restore the stadium back to life.
He said FAZ will engage FIFA for continued support for the project.
“There’s a lot of work to be done clearly as you can see. It’s our duty. We have to work very very hard to bring this stadium back into shape so that the people of Luapula, Mansa can really benefit from this FIFA -funded facility.” Said Mweemba.
Mweemba expressed gratitude to FIFA for funding rehabilitation works at four stadia across the country: David Kaunda Stadium, Independence Stadium, Kasama Stadium and Kaole Stadium.
He said FAZ will continue engaging FIFA for support towards football infrastructure.
“We are grateful to FIFA for the support and will continue knocking on their door so that they ensure that this stadium is brought up to speed.”
Mweemba said the visit by FIFA Regional Lead Development Officer David Fani last December will help move the project forward. He also urged FAZ Luapula to address the waterlogging affecting one side of the pitch as part of routine maintenance.
Meanwhile, Mweemba has called on government to intervene and support the project so the stadium can be completed in good time.
“We visited the Permanent Secretary and I’m sure government has also expressed concern about the slow pace. Obviously we need to request also apart from FIFA, government to come in and help us so that we just complete this project as soon as possible.”
