Guirassy Fires Dortmund to Victory Over 10-Man Cologne

Serhou Guirassy was on target again as Borussia Dortmund defeated 1. FC Cologne 2–1 in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, keeping their faint title ambitions alive.

The victory at the RheinEnergieStadion moved Dortmund to 55 points after 25 matches, though they remain 11 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Cologne sit 13th on the table with 24 points.

Dortmund made a bright start and took the lead in the 16th minute.

A defensive clearance from Cologne was sent back into the penalty area by Maximilian Beier, allowing Guirassy to react quickly and guide the ball into the net for his 12th league goal of the campaign.

Cologne’s situation worsened late in the first half when Jahmai Simpson-Pusey was sent off.

The defender was initially shown a yellow card after catching Beier on the ankle, but the decision was upgraded to a red card following a VAR review.

Dortmund doubled their advantage in the 60th minute through Beier, who combined neatly with Julian Brandt before finishing from close range.

The visitors nearly earned a penalty when Cenk Ozkacar challenged a Dortmund player inside the box, but referee Daniel Siebert overturned the decision after consulting VAR, ruling that the contact was insufficient.

Despite being a man down, Cologne pulled one back late on. Jakub Kaminski produced a determined run through the Dortmund defence before his deflected shot found the net, setting up a tense finale.

However, Dortmund held firm to secure the win and strengthen their push for a UEFA Champions League place next season.
