NPFL Slams Rangers with ₦4m Fine, Orders Closed-Door Matches Over Security Breaches

The Nigeria Premier Football League has imposed a ₦4 million fine on Enugu Rangers following multiple violations during their recent fixture against Barau FC.

In a disciplinary ruling, the league body found Rangers guilty of failing to provide adequate and effective security at the match venue.

This lapse reportedly allowed unauthorized individuals to gain access to restricted areas, raising serious concerns about matchday safety and organization.

The league also cited misconduct by club officials, stating that their actions brought the game into disrepute.

Additionally, Rangers were held responsible for the behavior of their supporters, whose actions led to the harassment of match officials during the encounter.

As part of the sanctions, the eight-time league champions were fined ₦1 million for inadequate security arrangements and another ₦1 million for allowing encroachment onto the field of play.

A further ₦1 million fine was issued for the unsporting conduct of club officials, while an additional ₦1 million penalty was handed down for failing to control the conduct of their fans.

Beyond the financial penalties, Rangers have been ordered to play their next two home matches behind closed doors, a move aimed at reinforcing discipline and preventing a recurrence of such incidents.

The Enugu-based club has been given a 48-hour window from the date of notification to lodge an appeal against the sanctions if they choose to contest the decision.
