Nigeria’s preparations for Tuesday’s international friendly against Jordan have suffered a significant setback following the departure of four key players from the Super Eagles camp.
Defenders Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Bruno Onyemaechi, alongside goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, have all exited the team ahead of the encounter.
According to reports, injuries have ruled out Bassey, Ajayi, and Okoye, dealing a blow to the team’s defensive stability and goalkeeping options.
Okoye, who plies his trade with Italian side Udinese, is said to have suffered a thigh injury, making him unavailable for selection.
The absence of Bassey and Ajayi further compounds the defensive concerns for the coaching crew, as both players are regular options in the backline and bring experience to the squad.
Meanwhile, Onyemaechi’s departure is not injury-related.
The defender has been granted permission to leave camp following the birth of his daughter, a development that has been warmly received within the team.
The update was confirmed by BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji via his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he detailed the reasons behind each player’s exit.
With four players now unavailable, the Super Eagles’ technical team will be forced to make adjustments as they continue preparations for the friendly clash against Jordan, which serves as part of the team’s build-up for upcoming international competitions.
