Nasarawa United have been hit with heavy sanctions by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following multiple violations during their home fixture against Kun Khalifat FC on April 5, 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium.
The league body found the club guilty of failing to provide adequate and effective security, a lapse that allowed unauthorized individuals to gain access to restricted areas within the stadium.
The breach raised serious concerns about matchday safety and adherence to league regulations.
Further compounding the situation, supporters of the Lafia-based side were reported to have thrown dangerous objects at match officials as they attempted to leave the pitch for secure areas.
The incident highlighted the club’s inability to maintain proper crowd control during and after the encounter.
In addition to fan misconduct, Nasarawa United’s officials were cited for actions considered unsporting and capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The club was also held accountable for failing to control its supporters, whose behavior led to the harassment of match officials and delayed their exit from the stadium for about 20 minutes after the match.
As a result, the NPFL imposed a series of financial penalties on the club. Nasarawa United were fined ₦1 million each for inadequate security and for the throwing of dangerous objects.
Another ₦1 million was issued for the misconduct of club officials. Separate fines of ₦1 million each were also handed down for supporters’ actions, including harassment and the unlawful detention of match officials.
Beyond the monetary sanctions, the club has been ordered to play its final two home matches of the season behind closed doors, a move aimed at preventing further incidents and ensuring compliance with league standards.
Nasarawa United have been given a 48-hour window from the date of notification to file an appeal against the sanctions if they wish to challenge the decision.
