Congolese football has been plunged into turmoil following serious allegations against Jean Guy Blaise Mayolas, president of the Congolese Football Federation. He is accused of embezzling more than one million dollars in subsidies paid by FIFA for the development of the sport.

According to an investigation revealed by The Guardian, a network of shell companies was allegedly created to divert these funds, raising major concerns about governance and transparency within the federation.

The case took a decisive legal turn on Friday, February 27, after a complaint was filed by the Ministry of Sports. The gendarmerie arrested the federation’s secretary general, Badji Mombo, along with the treasurer, Mr Kanda, marking the start of a deeper investigation into the management of international funding.

With senior officials now under scrutiny, the future of the federation appears uncertain, and the affair could trigger heavy sanctions from both national authorities and FIFA, which maintains a strict stance against the misuse of its development programs.
