A few months after its comeback, the Dakar Meeting has been removed from the calendar of World Athletics due to logistical and financial difficulties.
The announcement was confirmed by Sara Oualy, president of the Senegalese Athletics Federation, during an interview on RTS 2.
The main issue concerns unpaid bonuses owed to athletes who participated in the 2025 edition.
According to Oualy, settling these payments could allow the event to return later in the season, possibly after the African Athletics Championships scheduled for next May.
The situation has disappointed athletics fans in Senegal, who had celebrated the return of the Dakar Meeting just last year.
