CAF Postpones Women’s AFCON to July–August 2026

CAF Postpones Women’s AFCON to July–August 2026

The Confederation of African Football has officially postponed the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, less than two weeks before the tournament was scheduled to begin.

In a statement released on Thursday, CAF confirmed that the competition, originally set to take place this month, has been rescheduled due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

The continental governing body announced that the tournament will now be played from 25 July to 16 August 2026, giving participating nations additional time to prepare for the competition.

The late change is expected to affect teams that had already begun final preparations for the championship, including training camps and logistical arrangements ahead of the tournament.

While CAF did not provide detailed reasons behind the postponement, the decision comes at a critical stage with squads nearing final selection and travel plans already underway.

The Women’s AFCON remains Africa’s premier women’s football competition and also serves as a key platform for showcasing the growth of the women’s game across the continent.

This is coming days after report emerged that Morocco are likely to pull out and when South Africa mentioned that they are willing to step in should that happen.
