Man City, Liverpool To Faceoff In FA Cup Quarter Final

The quarter-final line-up for the FA Cup has been confirmed following Monday’s draw, setting up a blockbuster clash between Manchester City and Liverpool, while Premier League leaders Arsenal will travel to face Championship side Southampton.

Defending champions Manchester City booked their place in the last eight after a convincing 3–1 victory over Newcastle United, with manager Pep Guardiola continuing his team’s impressive run in the competition.

The Citizens have now reached the quarter-final stage for the eighth consecutive season and remain in contention for a fourth straight FA Cup final appearance as they pursue a historic quadruple this season.

Liverpool also progressed with a 3–1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, setting up what promises to be one of the standout ties of the round when they visit the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, record 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal will take on Southampton away from home.

The Gunners, led by manager Mikel Arteta, are also chasing an ambitious quadruple this campaign, having already reached the League Cup final and advanced to the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

One of the biggest surprises of the fifth round came from third-tier side Port Vale, who stunned Premier League visitors Sunderland with a narrow 1–0 victory to reach the quarter-finals.

However, the League One side now face a daunting trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, who secured their place in the last eight after defeating Wrexham 4–2 after extra time in an entertaining encounter.

In another tie, West Ham United will host Leeds United after the Hammers advanced via a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Brentford.

Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos converted the decisive spot kick as West Ham sealed a 5–3 shootout win following a 2–2 draw after extra time.
