Former Black Stars defender and current high-performance coach John Paintsil believes Ghana national football team have what it takes to overcome England national football team if the two sides meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Paintsil described a potential encounter between Ghana and England as a “local derby,” pointing to the strong Ghanaian presence in England and the familiarity many players from both sides have with each other. Despite the challenge, the former defender expressed confidence that the Black Stars could come out on top.
While optimistic about Ghana’s chances against England, Paintsil warned that another European powerhouse, Croatia national football team, should not be taken lightly. According to him, Croatia remain a dangerous opponent with the quality and experience to trouble any team if underestimated.
Paintsil also reserved praise for Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, describing him as a strong leader and disciplinarian capable of guiding the team to success. He urged Ghanaians to rally behind the coach and the team as they prepare for the challenges ahead on the global stage.
