Falconets Intensify World Cup Qualifiers Preparation as Abuja Camp Opens

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, have kicked off preparations for their decisive qualifying clash for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with players and officials now in camp in Abuja.

The team began reporting to camp on Monday, April 6, 2026, with training sessions officially commencing the following day as the coaching crew wasted no time in setting the tone for what promises to be a crucial phase in their campaign.

Early sessions have focused on improving fitness levels, strengthening team chemistry, and sharpening tactical awareness, while the technical bench continues to expect the arrival of other invited players.

Head Coach Moses Aduku addressed the squad during their first training session, delivering a strong message centered on discipline, unity, and commitment.

He urged the players to remain fully focused and mentally prepared as they approach what he described as a defining moment in their quest for World Cup qualification.

The Falconets are set to face Malawi women’s national under-20 football team in the final round of the qualifiers.

The Malawians booked their place at this stage after narrowly overcoming Guinea-Bissau women’s national under-20 football team in their previous tie, setting up a high-stakes encounter with the Nigerian side.

The first leg of the tie will be played in Nigeria on May 2, with the return leg scheduled for a week later in Malawi.

Both teams will be aiming to secure one of Africa’s four available tickets to the global tournament.

The 2026 edition of the competition will be hosted in Poland from September 5 to 26, where the continent’s finest young talents will compete on the world stage.

For the Falconets, securing qualification remains the immediate priority, as preparations in camp continue to gather momentum.
