Alisson to Miss Liverpool’s Champions League Clash with Galatasaray as Mac Allister Returns to Training

Alisson Becker will miss Liverpool F.C.’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg encounter against Galatasaray S.K. on Tuesday after the Brazilian goalkeeper was left out of the travelling squad to Turkey.

The Reds departed Merseyside for Istanbul on Monday afternoon ahead of the crucial European tie, but Alisson was not included in the group making the trip.

His absence represents a significant setback for Liverpool as they prepare for a challenging away fixture in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

While Liverpool will have to cope without their first-choice goalkeeper, there was encouraging news regarding Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine midfielder returned to training on Monday morning after suffering a knee problem during the second half of Liverpool’s 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. in the FA Cup on Friday.

Mac Allister had required lengthy treatment on the pitch during that match and was eventually substituted, raising concerns about his availability for the European fixture.

However, his participation in the training session before the team’s departure suggests he could still play a role in the clash in Istanbul.

In contrast, Italian forward Federico Chiesa will also miss the trip.

Although he was an unused substitute during the FA Cup win at Molineux, Chiesa did not train with the squad on Monday and was not included in the travelling party heading to Turkey.

Liverpool manager and his technical team will therefore rely on other attacking options as they seek a positive result in a hostile atmosphere at Galatasaray’s home ground.

Among the key players travelling with the squad are captain Virgil van Dijk, forward Mohamed Salah, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and striker Cody Gakpo.

Goalkeeping responsibilities could fall to Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is part of the travelling squad alongside backup keeper Chris Woodman.

Liverpool’s travelling squad includes: Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Andrew Robertson, Chris Woodman, Jeremie Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch, Nyoni, Nallo, Morrison, Ngumoha and Misciur.

The Reds will be aiming to secure a strong result in Istanbul before the return leg at Anfield as they continue their pursuit of another Champions League title.
