Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, will take on Wales for the first time in history in an international friendly scheduled for June 2, 2026, in Cardiff.
The encounter will mark a historic meeting between the two nations, as they have never previously faced each other at senior international level. The friendly is expected to provide both sides with an important opportunity to test their squads as they continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA world cup.
Interestingly, Wales have rarely faced opposition from Africa. The last — and only — time the Welsh national team played against an African side was in 1998 when they met Tunisia. That match also holds a personal connection for current Wales head coach Craig Bellamy, who was involved during that period of the team’s history.
The upcoming clash against Ghana will therefore end a 28-year wait for Wales to face African opposition, while also giving the Black Stars a chance to measure themselves against a European side on Welsh soil.
With both teams looking to build momentum, the June showdown in Cardiff promises to be a fascinating and historic international friendly.
