Bokélé Clarifies International Allegiance Amid DR Congo Controversy

Cameroon international Malcom Bokélé has moved to clear the air following growing controversy surrounding his international allegiance, firmly stating that he was never approached to represent DR Congo.

In a measured response addressing the speculation, Bokélé emphasized that his decision to play for Cameroon was both deliberate and deeply personal.

“I would like to clarify that I was never contacted by anyone to represent DR Congo,” he said. “I feel just as Cameroonian as I do Congolese, and both identities mean a great deal to me.”

The defender acknowledged his dual heritage, underlining the importance of both nations in shaping his identity. However, he reiterated his commitment to the Indomitable Lions, insisting his choice was made with full conviction.

“Today, I am proud to play for Cameroon and I fully embrace this decision, made with conviction and sincerity,” Bokélé added.

Despite pledging his international future to Cameroon, the player was keen to express his continued respect and affection for Congo. He even extended his support to the Congolese national team ahead of upcoming FIFA world cup.

“This does not take away in any way the respect and attachment I have for Congo. I will be one of their first supporters and I wish them courage and great success at the World Cup,” he concluded.

Bokélé’s statement is expected to ease tensions among fans while reaffirming his commitment to Cameroon, as debates over dual-nationality players continue to spark discussion across African football.
