The Nigeria Basketball Federation has named experienced American coach David Fizdale as the new head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers.
Fizdale joins the national team with extensive NBA coaching experience, having previously managed the Memphis Grizzlies and the New York Knicks.
Reacting to his appointment, the new D’Tigers coach expressed enthusiasm about leading the Nigerian side and credited former coach Mike Brown for influencing his decision to accept the role.
“I’m super excited. I have Mike Brown to thank, who coached the team before and the year they beat the U.S. and played in Japan,” Fizdale said.
“Mike brought it up to me. After some good talks and going back-and-forth, we agreed that I was going to try to take the team to qualify.”
Fizdale is expected to lead D’Tigers as they pursue qualification for upcoming international basketball competitions and aim to strengthen Nigeria’s presence on the global stage.
