Egypt To Play Spain After Finalissima Cancellation

Egypt To Play Spain After Finalissima Cancellation

Spain have reshaped their March international programme after the planned Finalissima showdown with Argentina was called off amid geopolitical tensions.

With the high-profile fixture scrapped and a mini tournament in Qatar also abandoned, the Spanish Football Federation quickly moved to arrange alternative games to keep the national team active during the break.

Reports from Marca indicate that Spain will now host Egypt national football team in a friendly on March 31.

Egypt accepted the invitation after discussions between the federation and the team’s head coach, Hossam Hassan.

The match will see the African side test themselves against the reigning European champions led by coach Luis de la Fuente.

The Egyptian federation has already begun arrangements for the trip to Spain, where forward Mohamed Salah is expected to headline the squad.

Officials are yet to confirm the venue for the encounter.

Spain had earlier secured another friendly against Serbia national football team scheduled for March 27.

That match will be played at Estadio de la Cerámica, home of Villarreal CF.

Serbia also needed new fixtures after the planned event in Qatar collapsed.

By agreeing to face Spain, the Balkan side ensured their players would still get valuable match time during the international window.

The March friendlies will now serve as important preparation matches for both teams as they continue their build-up toward upcoming competitive tournaments.
