FAZ President Keith Mweemba says he is aware of concerns raised by lower league clubs over financial support and equipment, and says the association is working on a more structured system to address the gaps.
Speaking at the FAZ Muchinga Annual General Meeting held at the Northern Rock Hotel in Mpika on Thursday, Mweemba said FAZ is reviewing how support is distributed to clubs in the lower leagues.
Mweemba told councillors that while FAZ remains committed to assisting clubs, future support will be tied to accountability and long-term impact.
He said FAZ is aiming to avoid short-term fixes and partisan support, and instead build a sustainable system that strengthens its capacity to generate resources.
The FAZ President also urged councillors to help attract sponsorship at club level as the association reforms its support framework.
Meanwhile, Stephen Juma who spoke on behalf of Mpika District Commissioner, hailed Mweemba for attending the FAZ AGM in Muchinga adding that the FAZ President’s attendance reflected engagement with grassroots football.
“This visit demonstrates commitment to inclusive development and engagement with grassroots football structures.” Said Juma.
And FAZ Muchinga Chairperson Samuel Mwape said the region has made progress in improving coaching standards through structured training programmes, including the FAZ E License conducted in Mafinga, Chinsali and Mpika.
Mwape said about 530 participants who included sports teachers and club coaches, benefited from the training.
“The comprehensive training of coaches in FAZ E license attracted participants from within our province, Luapula and Copperbelt Province,” Mwape said.
He, however, noted challenges such as shortages of basic equipment like goal nets and limited financial support, which he said continue to hinder the growth of the game in Muchinga.
