The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has confirmed that Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 World Cup now rests with FIFA.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) lodged a formal protest with the world football governing body, alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the African play-off final.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Dikko said the issue remains under review.
He stated, “From a competitive standpoint, the World Cup is closed for us, but the legal proceedings are ongoing.
The relevant independent bodies within FIFA will make the final decision.”
Dikko also expressed hope that the Super Eagles could be reinstated for the intercontinental play-offs scheduled for March.
