Moroccan top-flight side Hassania Agadir have initiated legal proceedings against head coach Amir Abdou after he reportedly ended his contract with the club to accept the position of head coach of the Burkina Faso national football team.
The Botola Pro outfit revealed that Abdou communicated his decision through an official email, informing the club that he had chosen to terminate his contract despite having around one and a half seasons remaining on his deal.
The contract also reportedly included an option that could have extended his stay at the club.
In a statement issued by Hassania Agadir, the club said it received the notification on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, through its official communication channel.
According to the club, the decision was taken without mutual agreement, prompting them to begin formal steps to protect their interests.
“Hassania Agadir announces that it received, yesterday Tuesday, March 3, 2026, a message from coach Amir Abdou via the club’s official email, informing the club of his decision to unilaterally terminate his contract,” the statement said.
The Moroccan club further stressed that it would immediately begin the necessary legal and administrative procedures under existing football regulations to defend its rights and reputation.
The management also assured supporters that efforts were being made to maintain stability within the team while the situation is resolved.
Sources indicate that Hassania Agadir could pursue compensation through global and continental football authorities such as FIFA and the Confederation of African Football if the dispute escalates.
The controversy comes shortly after Abdou was announced as the new head coach of the Burkina Faso national team on Sunday, March 1.
He replaces Brama Traoré, following the Stallions’ disappointing early elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
At the time of the development, Hassania Agadir occupy ninth position in the Botola Pro standings with 15 points from 14 matches, sitting just three points above the relegation zone as the season progresses.
