Asante Kotoko have firmly dismissed reports suggesting interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu abandoned the team without notice, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In an official clarification, the club stated that Owusu had duly sought permission to attend to urgent family matters as he mourns his late mother. The Porcupine Warriors added that the coach is expected back in Kumasi this week, with any further updates to be communicated through official channels.
Earlier reports had alleged that the interim coach was nowhere to be found at training, fueling speculation that he had gone into hiding following threats from supporters after the club’s heavy defeat to Medeama SC.
Kotoko’s swift response seeks to put the matter to rest, emphasizing that Owusu’s absence was both communicated and understood internally, as the club continues preparations amid a challenging period on the pitch.
