Milford FC produced a dramatic upset to knock out top-flight side Sekhukhune United from the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after a tense penalty shootout at New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The lower-division outfit made a dream start when Cheswyn Philander struck in the fourth minute to give Milford an early lead. Sekhukhune responded quickly through Lehlogonolo Mojela, whose equaliser restored parity as the teams went into halftime locked at 1–1.
After a goalless second half, the contest moved into extra time where the drama continued. Olerato Mandi appeared to have won it for Sekhukhune when he scored in the 106th minute to give the hosts the advantage. However, Milford refused to give up and found a late equaliser through Sibulele Mekuto in the 116th minute to force a penalty shootout.
Milford held their nerve from the spot, claiming a 3–2 victory on penalties to seal a famous win and secure their place in the semi-finals. The result means the second-tier side joins fellow giant killers Casric Stars in the last four, highlighting a remarkable run for lower-division clubs in this year’s competition.
