In the men’s 60kg division, Delta State’s Pender Victorious showed skill and composure in the ring, defeating Kalu Abel Ebubechi of Abia State to progress in the competition.
Victorious controlled the tempo of the bout, landing decisive punches that secured his advancement.
The men’s 70kg category produced one of the day’s most competitive contests. Nwoko Ebere Tehundjo of Imo State edged past Delta State’s Goddy Godstime in a closely fought encounter.
The bout was decided by split decision, underlining the intensity and evenly matched nature of the contest, as Tehundjo clinched his semi-final ticket.
In the women’s 58kg contest, Bayelsa State’s Sarah Victor delivered a confident performance to overcome Victoria Sunday Ekpo of Cross River State.
Victor’s dominance in the exchanges ensured her safe passage into the next round.
The women’s 60kg division witnessed multiple quarter-final clashes. Naomi Alexander of Akwa Ibom State secured victory over Somtochukwu Njoku of Abia State, booking her place in the semi-final.
Edo State’s Okolo Favour also impressed, defeating Abai Opeyemi Deborah of Ondo State to advance.
In the same 60kg weight class, Bayelsa State’s Blessed Joseph moved into the semi-finals after being awarded a walkover against Alanonu Chiamara Esther of Imo State.
Meanwhile, Rivers State’s Obani Onhyenatuluchi progressed via walkover against Okon Ekubose Cornelius of Cross River State, rounding off the day’s quarter-final results.
With the semi-final line-up now taking shape, anticipation continues to build as the remaining contenders prepare to battle for spots in the finals of the boxing event at the ongoing Niger Delta Games.
