The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee has suspended referee Terwase Chia for the remainder of the 2025–26 season of the Nigeria National League (NNL) over alleged unprofessional conduct during a league match.
The referee was sanctioned following incidents that occurred during the fixture between Gombe United and Jigawa Golden Stars.
According to the committee’s findings, Chia was accused of displaying behaviour deemed unprofessional while officiating the encounter.
After reviewing reports and available evidence, the disciplinary panel ruled that the official would be suspended for the remainder of the ongoing NNL campaign.
In addition to the referee’s punishment, the committee also imposed sanctions on both clubs involved in the match.
Gombe United were found guilty of failing to control their supporters after fans reportedly invaded the pitch during the game. As a result, the club was fined ₦1 million for the misconduct of its supporters.
Meanwhile, Jigawa Golden Stars were handed a ₦500,000 fine for refusing to continue the match following the incident.
After deliberations, the NFF disciplinary body declared the matter concluded with the result of the match standing as a goalless draw.
However, both Gombe United and Jigawa Golden Stars have been granted the right to appeal the decision if they are dissatisfied with the outcome of the committee’s ruling.
