Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has delivered a powerful endorsement of Asamoah Gyan, describing the former Black Stars captain as a symbol of possibility, perseverance, and the future of Ghana’s football development.
Speaking as part of Gyan’s ambassadorial unveiling, Okraku emphasized the striker’s enduring influence on young players across the country, framing his journey as a blueprint for the next generation.
“To every young boy and girl chasing a football dream in communities across Ghana, Asamoah Gyan represents possibility. He represents perseverance. He represents hope. He reminds us that greatness is attainable through hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and self-belief,” Okraku said.
The GFA boss also highlighted the strategic importance of grassroots football, stressing that the future of the national team depends on sustained investment in colts football.
“Asamoah Gyan will champion Colts football — the heartbeat of our football ecosystem and the foundation upon which future Black Stars are built,” he noted.
Okraku further underlined Gyan’s suitability for the role, pointing to his journey from humble beginnings to global stardom as a source of inspiration for aspiring footballers.
“Every great football nation invests in its roots. Every football legend once started as a child with a dream. And who better to inspire our young talents than someone who rose from humble beginnings from the famous Accra Academy to become a global football icon,” he added.
Gyan’s appointment is expected to extend beyond symbolic value, with the former Sunderland and Al Ain striker tasked with leading promotional campaigns, fan engagement initiatives, and partnerships aimed at uniting Ghanaians behind the Black Stars.
As Ghana looks to rebuild and strengthen its football identity, the move signals a deliberate effort to reconnect the national team with its grassroots while leveraging the legacy of one of its most iconic figures.
