PSL : Hunt Admits Attacking Woes Ahead of Chiefs Clash

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has raised concerns over his side’s attacking options ahead of their Betway Premiership encounter against Kaizer Chiefs.

Stellenbosch head into the fixture under pressure after a difficult run of form, managing just one win and two draws in their last five matches across all competitions. Their most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Magesi FC, a result that did little to ease tensions.

They remain 13th on the Premier Soccer League table.

Hunt’s biggest worry centers on the absence of forward Makhubu, whose injury has left the team thin in attacking areas.

“It’s a huge blow to lose Makhubu,” Hunt admitted. “We’re really struggling up front, so it’s a huge blow, especially for the next two games. The Cup game against Golden Arrows on Saturday is a Cup game, but it’s a blow for the Chiefs game next Tuesday.”

The timing could hardly be worse. With a Cup fixture against Golden Arrows looming before the league showdown with Chiefs, Hunt must find solutions quickly if Stellenbosch are to rediscover their cutting edge.

There was, however, a glimmer of encouragement in the return of Faiz, who has been back in training for two weeks after a lengthy layoff.

“We’ve had Faiz back for about two weeks now and don’t really have a wide player like him. I like him, I think he’s got huge upturn. He’s not really match fit and has been out for a long time, but he showed glimpses of his quality, and that’s what we’re about,” Hunt explained.

The coach is also anxiously monitoring the fitness of striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, adding further uncertainty to an already stretched attacking unit.

With confidence fragile and points urgently needed, Stellenbosch face a stern test against Chiefs.
