Nigeria’s Super Falcons staged a commanding comeback to secure an emphatic victory over Cameroon after an early scare in a fiercely contested encounter.
Cameroon drew first blood in the 7th minute, capitalizing on a swift attacking move that momentarily stunned the Nigerian side and set the tone for an intense opening spell.
However, the Super Falcons gradually found their rhythm and began to assert control.
Their persistence paid off in the 32nd minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo rose highest inside the box to powerfully head home a well-delivered cross from Rinsola Babajide, restoring parity for Nigeria.
Ihezuo’s aerial dominance and precise finish reignited the team’s momentum.
Just before halftime, Nigeria completed the turnaround. Following a frantic scramble in Cameroon’s penalty area, Babajide — who had earlier provided the assist — reacted quickest to fire home in the 43rd minute, handing the Super Falcons a deserved 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The second half saw Nigeria tighten their grip on proceedings, dictating play and limiting Cameroon’s attacking threats.
Their dominance was further rewarded in the 64th minute when Michelle Alozie added a third goal, effectively sealing the victory.
Alozie’s composed finish put the contest beyond doubt and underscored Nigeria’s superiority on the day.
From an early setback to a commanding finish, the Super Falcons demonstrated resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking quality to overpower their rivals, sending a strong statement with an impressive performance.
The 10th time Africa Women’s Cup of Nations champions will further intensify training as they hope to defend the title when the WAFCON 2026 kicks off in March 17.
