Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has provided fresh insight into the qualities being considered for the next head coach of the Black Stars, emphasizing experience, success, and leadership as key benchmarks.
Speaking on the ongoing search for a new manager, Okraku stressed the importance of appointing a coach with a proven track record at both club and international levels. According to him, the ideal candidate must have demonstrated the ability to win trophies and command respect within the dressing room.
“[He] will be the person with the good record of having managed at the club level and hopefully at the national team level, would be someone who has won trophies and generally would be someone who will bring confidence to the changing room,” Okraku stated.
The GFA boss underscored the psychological dimension of leadership, noting that players are more likely to respond positively to a coach whose credentials inspire belief and trust.
“The players will look up to that person and say this guy has done it before and he knows what he is talking about. We want to move forward,” he added. “Hopefully, this next one [coach] will be that one that will give everyone the confidence.”
Okraku’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny over the direction of the national team, following a series of underwhelming performances that have triggered calls for a reset in technical leadership.
With expectations high and the stakes even higher, the GFA’s next appointment is widely viewed as pivotal to restoring the Black Stars’ competitive edge and re-establishing unity within the squad.
