Osei Kofi Urges Return of Kwesi Appiah, Laments Lack of Cohesion in Black Stars

Black Stars legend Rev. Osei Kofi has called for the return of Kwesi Appiah as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, insisting that the former manager’s deep understanding of the country’s football identity makes him the ideal candidate for the role.

Speaking on the future of the team, Osei Kofi expressed reservations about the appointment of a foreign coach, suggesting that any such individual would require time to adapt to the Ghanaian game.

“If we bring a white coach, the person will have to first come and understudy,” he said. “But for Kwesi Appiah, he knows our brand of football already. It will help Ghana if we go and beg him to come back.”

The former Black Stars forward also highlighted what he believes is a disconnect within the current squad, despite the abundance of individual talent available to the team.

Drawing on a past conversation with former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor, Osei Kofi emphasized the importance of unity and collective identity over individual brilliance.

“God has blessed Ghana with a lot of talents. ‘Just look at my stature,’ President Kufuor told me. ‘My achievements do match my body size,’” he recounted. “Right now we have players, but we don’t have a team.”

His remarks come at a time when the Black Stars are under increasing scrutiny to get a good coach to restore the team’s competitive edge.

Osei Kofi’s comments are likely to reignite debate within Ghanaian football circles, particularly on whether a return to familiar leadership could provide the cohesion and direction the national team currently lacks.
