Alvaro Arbeloa has officially confirmed that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. Speaking ahead of the match against Athletic Bilbao, the Spanish coach announced that Saturday’s game at the Santiago Bernabéu would mark the end of his adventure with the club.
Appointed in January to replace Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa experienced a difficult spell filled with pressure, mixed performances, and internal tensions, but he still expressed pride in the work he carried out during his months in charge of the team.
The former Real Madrid defender also admitted that he did not always agree with every player in the dressing room, although he maintained respectful relationships with most of the squad. Arbeloa explained that he always tried to make decisions for the good of Real Madrid rather than for personal interests.
According to Spanish media reports, José Mourinho could replace him if Florentino Pérez secures another mandate as club president. Arbeloa, however, ruled out joining Mourinho’s staff and stated that he now wants to focus on the next challenge of his coaching career.
