Finidi  Confident Rivers United Remain on NPFL Title Course Despite Bayelsa Defeat

Head coach Finidi George has insisted that Rivers United are still firmly on track to win the Nigeria Premier Football League title, despite their latest setback against Bayelsa United.

The Pride of Rivers suffered a narrow defeat to their South-South rivals on Sunday, a result that momentarily dented their momentum in the title race.

However, the former Super Eagles winger downplayed the loss, stressing that the broader objective of lifting the league trophy at the end of the season remains well within reach.

Speaking after the match, Finidi made it clear that isolated defeats will not distract his side from their ultimate ambition.

“If losing to Bayelsa United will give us the league title, I’ll accept it,” he said.

“Let’s lose to Bayelsa United and win the league.

“I’m not that worried about losing to Bayelsa United twice last season and twice this season.

“We know the purpose of our campaign this season is to win the league. It’s quite unfortunate that we lost today.”

Rivers United have struggled against Bayelsa United in recent meetings, having also fallen short against them twice last season.

Nevertheless, Finidi remains confident that such setbacks will not define their campaign.

The tactician emphasized that league titles are decided by consistency over the course of the entire season, not by the outcome of individual fixtures.

With the club still in strong contention at the top end of the table, Rivers United will now shift focus to their upcoming matches as they continue their push for domestic glory.

As the NPFL title race intensifies, Finidi’s message is clear: the mission is bigger than one result, and Rivers United remain determined to stay the course in their quest for the championship.
