Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prince Yaw Owusu, has insisted he remains unconcerned about growing calls for his dismissal, stressing that his focus remains solely on performing his duties while leaving any decision about his future in the hands of club management.
Speaking after recent criticism from sections of supporters, Owusu adopted a calm and professional tone, stating that he is prepared to accept whatever verdict the club’s leadership reaches.
“They are free to call for it (my sack); that is a decision for management to make,” Owusu said. “For me, I’m not worried about it. I just go out there and do my job and leave the rest to management. If they make the call today, I will respect it.”
The interim boss, however, acknowledged ongoing challenges within his squad, particularly in the attacking department, pointing to inefficiency in the final third as a key concern over the past two weeks.
According to Owusu, forward Gyau has struggled with decision-making in front of goal, often opting for power over composure in clear scoring situations.
“For the past two weeks, we’ve been having a problem with Gyau in the final third,” he explained. “He had a ball in the first half; it was just a tap-in that was needed, but he always wants to shoot. Even in the warm-up it came up.”
The coach revealed he personally advised the player during the match to simplify his finishing approach.
“On my way to the dressing room I told him, please just tap it in. You are standing in front of the post; you don’t need to shoot the ball that hard, and he had difficulty tapping the ball in,” Owusu added.
His remarks highlight a broader issue facing the Porcupine Warriors as they seek consistency and improved attacking efficiency amid mounting pressure from supporters demanding better results.
With the season entering a crucial phase, management’s next decision regarding Owusu’s tenure could prove pivotal as Asante Kotoko aim to steady their campaign and restore confidence among their fanbase.
