Issa Tounkara: England beckons Mali’s new star

Issa Tounkara may soon begin his European adventure, as the Malian midfielder is reportedly nearing a transfer to Southampton FC, who play in the EFL Championship.

According to reports, the English club has offered more than €1.2 million to secure the player’s services, with a four-year contract.

The transfer seems to be on track, as the player is already in England to finalize the last formalities, including his medical examination, which he has reportedly passed.

The deal is expected to be made official in the coming days.

A versatile midfielder nicknamed Gana Gueye, Tounkara made a name for himself during the last U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

He contributed to Mali’s impressive performance, reaching the final of the tournament for the fourth time in its history.

Initially, he is expected to play for Southampton’s reserve team, while regularly participating in training sessions with the professional squad in order to acclimatize to English football.
