FIFA has reportedly rejected Iran’s proposal to move its World Cup 2026 matches from the United States to Mexico. The request came after Iranian officials raised security concerns and expressed a preference to avoid playing on American soil amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Despite earlier uncertainty about participation, Iran ultimately confirmed that it still intends to take part in the tournament.
According to reports, FIFA has no plans to change the scheduled venues in Los Angeles and Seattle. Officials believe such a move would be impractical since tickets have already been sold and altering the locations would create logistical complications for other teams in the group.
As a result, Iran will likely have to play its matches in the United States as originally planned.
